Pathological envy12/9/2023 ![]() Those who are inclined toward monogamy (as Zizek is, being a critic of Polyamory and a proponent of Monogamy) may be taken aback when hearing these claims because the emotional trauma experienced at coming to knowledge of infidelity is understood as intrinsic to their erotic being as particular subjects with particular romantic expectations - which invokes how must they react to such in light of this? The reason that this confuses me is rather nitpicky but nonetheless eludes me as there seems to be no source outlining any discussion of this notion in relation to how Zizek uses the concept of Jealousy. What I am confused on this ground is what is the distinction between jealousy on the pathological level and jealousy that is normal (as Freud articulated between the rivalry over a lost love-object (akin to the jealousy between siblings) projective jealousy, and delusional jealousy).īut likewise I have seen it argued that all forms of jealousy, for Lacan and those who follow him, may be classified as under the delusional/pathological level. He links this to Lacan's claim about the pathologically jealous husband who may very well actually know their wife is cheating, is still behaving pathologically. Likewise, this is applied to the response to the refugee crisis and Jordan Peterson. I am rather familiar with Zizek's points about pathological jealousy - a la the fantasy of the jew, even if grounded in reality of particular (or even all) Jews engaging in debaucheries, this doesn't discount the ideological creation of the Jewish figure to account for problems inherent to the structure of German society (economic and social collapse, the contradictions of Capitalism, etc etc).
